Important News Regarding the Future of AROARA

I would like to introduce you to Alaska Radio Control Association. This organization will be running all future race events. This is a new group of highly motivated individuals, headed by Kris Campbell. Kris has gone through great lengths to set up a proper foundation for this new club. I invite you to check out their Facebook page and give 'em a "like". This does not mean that AROARA is going away. It just means that the AROARA name is taking a bit of a hiatus. It's still the same group of guys; just a different name, run by a new group of individuals. It's a "changing of the guard" so to speak.

I'd like to thank all the club members for their participation and most noteably Jeff Adolf, Chris Haigh, Steve Bothell, Scott Schneider for helping me run the races over the years and Bruce Stingley for being the longest tenured active racer I know of and entertaining us with his epic meltdowns!

So be sure to check out Alaska Radio Control Association for further info on future race events. I'm excited to see what changes they have in store for r/c racing in Alaska.

It's Back! The Infamous Enduro!

July 15th 2012

Each team will be made up of three members. Each member will participate as driver, turn marshall and mechanic. Each team member will rotate positions each time there is a driver change. MARSHALS ARE ONLY REQUIRED TO MARSHAL THEIR TEAM'S VEHICLE. So you best be wearing your running shoes, not Jesus sandals like Tommy wears...

Each team will field 3 vehicles:
  • 1/10 Stadium Truck or Buggy
  • 1/10 Short Course
  • 1/8 Buggy or Truggy
Vehicles can be either nitro or electric.

The duration of the event is 3 hours comprised of 3 one-hour rounds. Each vehicle will race for 1 round; all competitors will run the same class vehicle for each round. If your vehicle suffers terminal damage and cannot be repaired, you must wait until the next round to run your next vehicle. For each round, you must run the same vehicle/chassis for the entire round. You can repair/replace anything on the vehicle except for the chassis; this includes tires.

Entry fee for each team is $75. We will have plaques/trophies along with prizes for competitors.

Summer 2012

The outdoor racing season is upon us! Racing will begin May 16th. The first race will be more of a meet-n-greet for the experienced racers to work out the kinks and for new racers to get help with their cars and see how this whole racing thing works. Racing starts at 6pm.

We will be racing the following classes:
  • Nitro/Electric 1/8 Truggy
  • Nitro/Electric 1/8 Buggy
  • 1/10 2WD Stock Short Course
  • 1/10 2WD Modified Short Course
  • 1/10 2WD Modified Buggy
  • 1/10 4WD Short Course
Details on the rules for each class can be found here. If you don't have something that quite fits into the classes listed above, don't sweat it. If we have enough new racers, we will run what we call a "production class" which is "run what ya brung". If we don't have enough for a full production class, we'll fit you in somewhere.

It's a Holiday Miracle! AROARA is fortunate enough to have a huge space to race this winter! We will start the winter season with racing on December 9th and December 16th. We'll take a break for the holidays and resume racing on January 6th.

Summer 2011 Race Schedule

We will be doing things a little bit differently this summer. We will be running an alternating Tuesday/Sunday schedule with two points series; one for Sundays and one for Tuesdays. We're doing this for a couple of reasons:

1)This allows guys to race on the weekends who can't make the usual weeknight races.
2)This allows guys who only participate in one series to have two weeks between races to get their junk fixed and more importantly, this will avoid the usual end-of-season burnout.

Racing officially starts with the Sunday Series on May 15th. The Tuesday series starts the following week on May 23rd. Sunday racing will start @ 11AM to avoid spending all day at the track. Tuesday racing will start at 6PM. We will also be doing the Summer Solstice Enduro on Sunday June 19th starting at high noon. Details to be announced later. If there is poor attendance for the weekend series, we will most likely cancel the weekend series and go back to a weekly Tuesday schedule.

Sunday Series

  • May 15th & 29th
  • June 12th & 26th
  • July 10th & 24th
  • August 7th & 21st
  • September 4th & 18th

Tuesday Series

  • May 24th
  • June 7th & 21st
  • July 5th & & 19th
  • August 2nd & 14th* & 31st *
  • September 11th* & 25th *
*these races are on SUNDAYS due to the usual shortage of daylight in the fall.
